How does automatic fire suppression work?

An automatic fire suppression system is designed to detect and combat a fire before it spreads. Fire detection takes place via pneumatic linear detection or electrical detectors that run through the protected area and activate at temperatures of around 180 degrees.

Activation process in the event of fire

  • Automatic fire detection 24/7
The detection tube continuously monitors the temperature inside the electrical panel or the protected area. In the event of abnormal heat development, the system is activated automatically.
  • Immediate suppression
When the fire detection is triggered, the tube bursts and activates a rapid discharge valve. The extinguishing agent is released immediately.
  • Total fire suppression
The released extinguishing agent absorbs heat and effectively interrupts the combustion process. The fire is extinguished before it can spread to other parts of the installation.
  • No cleanup required afterwards
When clean agent extinguishing agents are used, no residue is left behind. The electrical panel remains dry, and operations can be resumed quickly.

Fire protection of electrical panels – local object suppression

Fire in electrical panels is one of the most common causes of electrical fires in commercial buildings, according to the Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology. A fire in electrical installations can occur suddenly due to overload, short circuits, or defective components. That is why fire protection of electrical panels is crucial to safeguarding your business.

In the event of a fire in an electrical panel, the consequences can be extensive: production downtime, damaged equipment, and in the worst case, personal injury. With local object suppression, you minimize the risk and ensure continuity in your operations.

Why choose local fire suppression for electrical panels?

  • Fast response – The fire is detected and extinguished before it spreads
  • Minimal damage – Only the affected components are impacted
  • Minimal downtime – The system protects without affecting daily operations
  • Object protection – Safeguards the specific installation rather than the entire building

Automatic fire suppression for electrical panels

Our Reacton system is specifically designed for fire suppression in electrical panels. The system is compact, self-contained, and requires no external power supply. This means the protection is active 24/7—even in the event of a power outage.

The system is ideal for:

Fire suppression for server rooms and data centers

IT infrastructure is the backbone of many modern businesses. Fire suppression for electrical cabinets in server rooms and data centers requires special attention, as conventional extinguishing agents such as water can cause as much damage as the fire itself.

Fire prevention in IT environments

In addition to automatic fire suppression, we recommend a holistic approach to fire prevention:
  • Regular inspection of cables and installations
  • Monitoring of temperature and humidity
  • Early fire detection with sensitive sensors
  • Integrated alarm systems with beacon sounders for rapid notification

Fire protection without water damage

In server rooms, clean agent fire suppression is used—gas-based extinguishing agents that suppress the fire without leaving residue or damaging electrical cabinets.
This is crucial for:
  • Server rooms
  • Data centre
  • Telecom installations
A fire suppression system for server rooms must respond quickly and effectively. Our automatic fire suppression system is specifically designed for these environments, where even a few seconds of fire can lead to massive losses due to downtime.

Fire suppression for machinery and production equipment

CNC machines and machining equipment

Fire suppression for CNC machines is critical, as these often operate with oil, coolant, and metals that can ignite. A local fire suppression system installed directly inside the machine ensures immediate suppression.

Generators and power systems

Fire suppression for generators protects against fires caused by electrical faults. This is particularly relevant for:
  • Emergency generators
  • Fire suppression for wind turbines (nacelles and transformers)
  • Fire suppression for BESS systems (battery energy storage)

UPS systems

Fire suppression for UPS systems is essential, as they contain batteries that, in the event of a fault, can cause thermal runaway and fire. An automatic system provides round-the-clock protection.

Other production equipment

  • Hydraulic systems
  • Compressors
  • Transformers
  • Fire suppression for machinery in general

Extinguishing agents – Clean Agent technology

The choice of extinguishing agent is crucial for effective fire suppression without damaging the equipment you are trying to protect. We work with several types of clean agent extinguishing agents as an alternative to inert gas systems:

FM-200

FM-200 is one of the most widely used extinguishing agents for fire protection of electronic equipment. It suppresses fire quickly by interrupting the chemical reaction in the combustion process. FM-200 leaves no residue and is safe for electronic equipment.

Advantages of FM-200:
  • Fast suppression (under 10 seconds)
  • No residue after activation
  • Safe for people at normal concentrations
  • Ideal for server rooms and electrical panels

Reacton 1230

Novec 1230 is an environmentally friendly extinguishing agent with a very low global warming potential. It is ideal for companies focused on sustainability.

Advantages of Reacton 1230:
  • Environmentally friendly alternative
  • No ozone depletion
  • Evaporates quickly without leaving residue
  • Approved for use in occupied areas

Complements your existing fire protection system

An important point: Our automatic fire suppression system is designed to complement—not replace—your existing fire alarm system (Automatic Fire Alarm System, AFA) or ARS system.

This is how the systems work together

  • The fire alarm system (AFA) monitors the entire building and triggers an alarm in the event of smoke development.
  • The Reacton system protects the electrical panels locally and suppresses the fire at its source.

Integration with existing systems

Our fire suppression system can be integrated with:

  • Existing fire alarm systems (AFA)
  • Building management systems (BMS)
  • Monitoring systems

In addition, you can choose to include a beacon sounder alarm as part of your Reacton system.

Upon activation, the system can send a signal to your central fire alarm system, ensuring that all relevant parties are notified immediately.

Service and maintenance of fire suppression systems

What does fire suppression system service include?

  • Visual inspection of changes that could tamper with or reduce the system’s effectiveness
  • The ball valve in the cylinder system and the release mechanisms
  • Pressure gauges on the cylinder and EOL (End of Line) unit
  • Detection tube and sensors
  • Extinguishing agent cylinders (weight and pressure)
  • Electrical connections

FAQ

An automatic fire extinguisher (or automatic fire suppression system) activates itself in the event of a fire without human intervention. A standard portable fire extinguisher requires a person to detect the fire and activate the extinguisher manually.

Yes, the Reacton system is designed to complement your existing fire alarm system (AFA). It provides local protection and rapid suppression, while the fire alarm system ensures building-wide monitoring and alarm notification.

We recommend having the fire suppression system inspected once a year. With a service agreement, we ensure that your system is always in optimal condition.

Yes, we exclusively use clean agent extinguishing agents such as FM-200 and Novec 1230, which are safe for electronic equipment and leave no residue.

After activation, you contact us and we provide rapid service. We replace the used cylinder, any damaged components, inspect the system, and ensure it is ready for operation again.
