BESS and load banks in Denmark – panels, connection and service

The price of electricity fluctuates sharply over the course of a day. That makes energy storage one of the most obvious investments for companies that want to lower their energy costs and participate actively in the electricity market. A BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) lets you store cheap power and sell it when the price is high. But it requires that the system is correctly sized, the panels are properly produced, and the whole system works together from day one. That is where we come in.

Two ways to connect a BESS to your installation

How the battery system should be connected depends on the panel you have today. Choose your situation:

Your existing panel is robust enough to have a smaller SystemTeknik distribution panel connected to it, which routes the power to the BESS or the load bank.

What is a BESS?

BESS stands for Battery Energy Storage System. In short, it is a battery system that stores electrical energy and releases it again when it delivers the most value. The system consists of battery cells (typically lithium-ion), a power conversion system (PCS), a battery management system (BMS) and the electrical panels and distribution panels that tie it all together electrically. Sizes vary – we work with systems from 125 kW and 261 kWh, depending on your needs and your business model.

Battery cells

Lithium-ion cell modules with high performance and long service life.

PCS

The Power Conversion System converts DC to AC and modulates the power.

BMS

The Battery Management System monitors the cells and ensures safe operation.

Solar / wind

Renewable energy from solar and wind is integrated directly.

Power grid

Grid connection for import, export and ancillary services.

Industry / data center

Stable and flexible supply for critical processes.

Remote monitoring

Secure access and 24/7 support from Danish specialists.

AC panel

Main panel with protection, metering and circuit breakers.

SCADA / EMS

Energy management, monitoring and optimization in real time.

Everything about BESS – from control to service

At SystemTeknik, we install, service and build electrical panel solutions for BESS and load banks, with safety, control and integration built in from the start. Whether it involves connecting existing panels, rebuilding the panels or delivering new ones, we design solutions that fit your reality – not the other way around.

A BESS creates value in several ways

A complete BESS can do everything from providing frequency regulation to the power grid (FCR, aFRR, mFRR) to serving as backup for data centers and hospitals. And it can help you take advantage of spot price arbitrage, where you buy power cheaply and use or sell it when the price is high.

  • Frequency regulation – FCR, aFRR and mFRR via intelligent control
  • Intelligent purchasing and use of power – when it makes the most economic sense
  • Backup / UPS – secure supply to critical installations
  • Peak shaving – the battery supplies power during peak loads and reduces the draw from the grid
  • Solar, wind and hybrid – storage of surplus energy from renewable sources

From our BESS projects

Battery park on Vilhelmsborgvej in Thy

Our department in Thisted has supplied panel and switchgear equipment for a battery park that will contribute to grid stabilization and storage of green power in Thy.

Supply panel expanded for BESS

An existing supply panel was given two new outgoing feeders for a BESS, and a feeder for a solar installation was relocated – so the old and the new work together.

Manufactured, installed and serviced

We have delivered several battery systems that we manufacture, install and service – from the panels to ongoing service.

Faster delivery and competitive pricing

We keep the components we use in stock. As project manager, this gives you better control of schedule and budget – without compromising on quality.

BESS stands for Battery Energy Storage System – a battery system that stores electrical energy and releases it again when it delivers the most value. It consists of battery cells, a power conversion system (PCS), a battery management system (BMS) and the electrical panels that tie it all together.

What size systems do you work with?

From 125 kW and 261 kWh, depending on your needs and your business model.

What does a BESS cost?

It depends on your energy consumption, your grid connection and your business model. Because we keep the components in stock, the price of our panel solutions is typically up to 10% below the market.

Can a BESS be connected to our existing panel?

Often, yes. If the panel is robust enough, we connect a smaller distribution panel to it. If it is older, we connect a new distribution panel directly to the transformer station.

Do you service the system afterwards?

Yes. We service BESS throughout Denmark from our base in North Jutland – and for critical faults we typically respond within 24 hours.

Shall we look at your battery project?

Contact our CSO, Johan Ungermann Poulsen – and we will look at how the system is best connected to your installation.
