UL-listed panels according to UL 508A and UL 891

We design and build both UL 508A and UL 891 panels. With our two UL certifications, you get an electrical panel that meets the necessary safety and quality standards for the US and Canadian markets.

  • UL 508A – industrial control panels

  • UL 891 – switchboards

  • Certified for the USA and Canada

What are UL panels from SystemTeknik?

If your panels are going to the US or Canadian market, you need a panel builder with a UL certification. We can design and build both UL 891 and UL 508A panels with the same focus on quality as all our solutions.

By choosing us as your partner, you get qualified advice and guidance on the UL standards – we design, build, document and label the panels so they are built in accordance with both UL 891 and UL 508A.

For data centers, international operators often require UL-certified panels. See also our references.

When an electrical panel is to be delivered to the North American market, UL is not a formality. It is a prerequisite for approval, market access and on-time delivery.

UL-certified panel shop

We are a UL-certified panel shop and are audited by a UL inspector. That is why we apply the UL labels to the panels ourselves – and your panel is ready for UL approval in the USA and Canada when it leaves our production.

UL 508A and UL 891 – what is the difference?

UL 508A applies to industrial control panels, while UL 891 applies to panels for electrical distribution. SystemTeknik is certified to both – and for both the USA and Canada.

Why produce a panel with UL certification?

UL must be considered from the start – in component selection, cable types, sizing and documentation. SCCR, cable classification, UL 508A and documentation are closely interlinked, and many UL errors are only discovered during inspection.

Lack of UL compliance can mean:

Redesign and rework

Delayed approval

Additional documentation requirements

Pressure on schedule and budget

With UL-certified panel solutions, documented processes and expertise in UL 508A, you get a solution that is ready for inspection and ready for the market.

Questions and answers about UL panels

Do you apply the UL labels to the panels yourselves?

Yes. We are a UL-certified panel shop, are audited by a UL inspector and apply the UL labels to the panels ourselves.

What does UL 891 cover?

UL 891 covers switchboards (distribution panels) with nominal voltages up to 1,000 V AC and a maximum current rating up to 6,000 A. We typically build UL 891 panels in the range from 400 to 6,000 A.

What is the difference between UL 508A and UL 891?

UL 508A is the standard for Industrial Control Panels, typically control panels. UL 891 is the standard for switchboards used for power distribution. Both are safety standards required for the North American market in the USA and Canada.

Are your panels UL-listed?

Yes. We hold two UL certifications: UL file E526802 covers industrial control panels to UL 508A (USA) and CSA C22.2 No. 14 (Canada), and UL file E533947 covers switchboards to UL 891 (USA) and CSA C22.2 No. 244 (Canada).

Do UL-certified panels require special cables?

Yes. UL-certified panels require UL-certified cables. We take this into account from the start when we build UL panels for the USA/Canada market.

What types of UL panels can you deliver?

Our UL panels can be control, distribution or power panels – conventional or PLC-based, standard or custom-built, and produced either individually or in series.

Why does UL need to be considered from the start?

When an electrical panel is to be delivered to the North American market, UL is not a formality. UL must be built in from the start – in component selection, cable types, sizing and documentation. A single error can mean rework and delayed delivery.

What comes with a UL panel from SystemTeknik?

All panels are labeled, and complete electrical documentation is included. We design, build, document and label the panels so they are built in accordance with UL 891 and UL 508A.
